Review:
Madden 64 is a great game, but I wouldn't recommend it to people who don't like American football, because if you don't then this would obviously be wasted on you.
The game is very fluid, with many plays to choose from, it is very playable, once you've got the hang of the controls. The only downside is that it is not officially endorsed by the NFL, which means that you can't have all the team strips and logos, but all the players are there, so basically it makes no difference. (for example Pittsburgh Stealers still has the same line-up - Bettis, Stewart, etc except that it's called Pittsburgh (not Stealers) and the strip is (only slightly) different. And - I didn't mention the graphics - that's because they do the job, and not loads more.(But obviously they're fairly good, but not as good as other games such as DKR and Goldeneye.)
Obviously comparisons will be made with NFL quarterback club (another N64 American football game), which has better graphics, and the official NFL license, however (so I'm told) Madden is more playable… Either way they are both great games so you can't go far wrong.
Tips/Hints/Etc…
By the way of hints/strategies for play, there aren't really any easy tactics to win (except on rookie skill level). However one trick that sometimes works for me is when doing a passing play, if I get my receiver to dive into one of the guys on the opposing team (the guy covering your receiver) then sometimes you get pass interference, and if you do this on a long pass, then obviously you go way up the field, fairly easily.
The only other cheat type things that you can do involve using the front office, within the season options (when you are in a season).
Go to the create player screen, and type in the name of the player as one of the codes below, then keep on with the creation process until you get the screen that says about the salary he'll get and that he'll be saved. Then repeatedly press B to get back to the main screen, and in exhibition mode (and I suppose Custom season) then the option will be there.
That's about all for Madden I'm afraid…
